# BOXXY Proprietary Source Licence

BOXXY is **source-available proprietary software**. It is not open-source software.

## 1. Scope and ownership

This licence applies to the original BOXXY source code, artwork, characters, animation, audio, written material, interface design, branding, original puzzle content and original compilation created or owned by Sam Cornwell.

It does **not** apply to the third-party material identified in `THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md`. That material remains subject to its own copyright and licence terms.

## 2. Limited permission

Subject to this licence, you may:

- play BOXXY for personal, non-commercial purposes;
- download and run BOXXY for personal, non-commercial use;
- modify a private copy for personal experimentation;
- use GitHub's fork functionality for personal testing or to propose changes to the copyright owner.

## 3. Restrictions

Unless you first obtain written permission from Sam Cornwell, you may not:

- sell, license, sublicense, rent or otherwise commercially exploit BOXXY;
- monetise access to BOXXY through advertising, subscriptions, sponsorship or inclusion in a commercial product or service;
- publish, host, distribute or republish BOXXY, or a modified version, as another game, website, application or downloadable software package;
- extract or reuse BOXXY artwork, characters, interface assets, audio, written material or original puzzles in another product;
- remove or obscure copyright, authorship, attribution or licence notices;
- represent a modified or copied version as official or authorised;
- use the BOXXY name, logo or branding in a way that suggests ownership, sponsorship, endorsement or association.

The limited rights necessarily provided through GitHub's public-repository functionality remain subject to GitHub's Terms of Service.

## 4. User-created puzzles

A person who creates an original custom puzzle using BOXXY retains whatever rights they have in that puzzle. Using BOXXY's editor does not transfer ownership of that puzzle to Sam Cornwell. This does not grant the puzzle creator any rights in BOXXY itself, its code, artwork, interface, characters, audio or branding.

## 5. Commercial licensing

Commercial or republication permission may be available under a separate written agreement. Contact Sam Cornwell through the `quornsam` GitHub profile.

## 6. No warranty

BOXXY is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sam Cornwell is not liable for loss or damage arising from use of BOXXY.

## 7. Reservation of rights

No rights are granted except those expressly stated in this licence.
